SAPUTO PROUDLY SUPPORTS NORTH-WEST TASMANIAN DAIRY INDUSTRY THROUGH AGRITAS COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

4 November 2022

Saputo Dairy Australia (SDA) is pleased to announce a funding partnership with Agritas and its Duck River Meadows Dairy, located in Smithton, Tasmania.

With $10,000 support provided through SDA’s Building Strong Communities program, Agritas is offering the region’s primary and secondary school children a real-time dairy experience at Duck River Meadows Dairy through its school visitation program.

Funding support will also see the facility open its doors through free open days, with the first to be held on Saturday 12 November. Running in conjunction with the Stanley and Tarkine Forage Festival, community members are invited to come along to see cows being milked at the Robotic Dairy, as well as visit the museum and taste the local artisan cheese.

Chairman, Graeme Pretty, said “Agritas was extremely grateful for SDA’s support to showcase its world-class facility to locals and tourists alike, at no cost, on this community open day.”

Festival Chair, Clint Walker said “The Duck River Meadows Open Day is an important event in our Festival program and a fabulous way to open, with a truly fun family day, with lots of authentic educational activities and experiences. SDA’s contribution of free dairy tours has made it more accessible for local and visiting families and children to experience.”

SDA has a dairy processing footprint in Tasmania and remains committed to fostering a thriving dairy industry for the long-term in Australia. SDA’s Regional Operations Manager, Paul Davies, said “It’s a real bonus for the region to have such a fantastic local facility to educate our current and next generation of dairy farmers and cheese lovers, while promoting the dairy industry as a whole.”

“We’re proud to support our local schools and industry by investing in programs that build strong, resilient and thriving communities, and ensure the sustainability of Tasmania’s dairy industry,” Mr Davies said.

Under the community pillar of the Saputo Promise, SDA’s Building Strong Communities Program aims to support not-for-profit organisations with initiatives such as disaster preparedness, relief and recovery; development of sustainability projects; and development of community dairy education programs.
